Helping Tornado Victims

The GCMS Jr. Beta club, whose motto is "Let us lead by serving others", organized a collection of items for those in need in Brookport.  The announcement for the collection was made on Monday afternoon, and items were brought in on Tuesday morning.  GCMS students collected a truck AND van load of items that they dropped off at Heartland Worship Center in Paducah to be delivered to Brookport.  The club started then drive in honor of seventh grade Social Studies teacher, Glen Seaton, whose house was damaged by the tornado on Sunday afternoon.

An AWESOME Tea Party

Thank you so much to all of the Betas who donated items, helped set up, helped during the event, and helped clean up afterwards.  We had 107 very happy little girls, and a bunch of happy parents and grandparents.  I will be able to tell you soon how much we made for the Ronald McDonald House!  Here are a couple of pictures from the event!

Preparing for the Princess Tea Party

On Tuesday, August 27th, we will have a work day to prepare for the Princess Tea Party.  We will start working immediately after school until around 5pm.  At that time, if you would like to go to the football game (vs. Mayfield), we will walk over as a group.

Also, we need Betas to work the Princess Tea Party on Saturday, August 31st.  I have sign-up sheets in the library.  We need greeters, servers, nail and face painters, and Princess helpers.  The first shift starts at 12:30 and ends at 3.  The second shift starts at 3 and ends at 5:30.  You can work one or both shifts.  I am asking that you wear black pants or skirt and a white shirt.

You can also sign-up to bring in a package (or 2) of store bought cookies.  We have food for the little girls, but we need some to feed the adults as well.

If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Locker in the library.

Change

I hope that all of you are still collecting change for the Ronald McDonald House.  Please don't forget to be collecting....every little bit helps.  You will receive 2 points for a full container of change.  Please be prepared to turn in your change (so we can get a total) by August 9th, the first Friday we are back at school. :-)

7th Grade Orientation

On August 1st, 7th grade students and their families will be attending orientation at GCMS.  At our recent officers meeting, it was decided that Jr. Beta will set up a booth for incoming students to ask questions.  It will be a place for 7th graders to ask you guys questions about school stuff that they might not feel comfortable asking a teacher.  We will start setting up our booth at 4pm (orientation starts at 4:30), and will shut down at 6:45.  If you would like to work the booth or if you have questions, please e-mail me (kelly.locker@graves.kyschools.us).  Please wear your Beta shirts to work the booth.  You will get one point per hour for working.

Princess Tea Party

As most of you know, we are having a Princess Tea Party on August 31st at GCMS to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House.  We limited the party to 50 kiddos, and reached that very quickly.  So...we are adding a second tea party on the same day.  Closer to time we will need you guys and gals to help set-up and work the event, but for now we really need you to advertise.  If you have any little girls in your family who you think would like to attend, or you have some neighbors or church members who you think would be interested, please print off this flyer or send them to the website gcmsprincessteaparty.blogspot.com.  Please let them know that we are limiting this to 50 kiddos and spots will fill up quickly.  If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

Camp GCMS

Hello Betas! We have another school comunity service project opportunity on June 18-21. GCMS is hosting a camp for incoming 7th graders, and Mr. Williams needs 8-10 Betas to help out. You can work one day, or all days. The camp is from 8-3pm. There will be a small stipend (you will be paid). If you work and take the stipend, you will get 3 points for working the day. If you donate your stipend to Ronald McDonald House, you will get 5 points for working the day. Lunch will be provided. If you would like to work, please send me an email with the days you would like to work so I can forward your name to Mr. Williams. Hope to hear from you all! My email is kelly.locker@graves.kyschools.us.

GCMS Work Day

Thanks so much to the awesome Beta members who came out to help with the GCMS Work Day.  We mulched the flower beds in the front of the school and helped Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Fain paint their classrooms.  What a great day!

Ronald McDonald House Promo

For the 2013-2014 school year, our club has adopted the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville as our charity.  Our goal is to collect $2000 to sponsor a room for a year.  We feel very passionate about our work for the RMH because most of us know of someone or have ourselves used their services.  Below is the link to our promotional video featuring our own Mrs. Hayden.
